NJ Salticus

Nicky was born in Leeds and now lives in Sheffield. She has always had a strong creative voice, rooted in drawing and painting. Her work is inspired by organic forms and the quiet, often overlooked details of the natural world, the small encounters with nature that shape daily life, especially for those living in cities.

After studying art at school, she went on to read geology and later palynology at university. This scientific training deepened her fascination with the natural environment and the intricate beauty of organic structures. Nicky has kept honeybees for many years, nurturing a parallel interest in entomology and microscopy. These experiences continue to influence her practice, drawing her towards subjects that reveal the hidden, delicate, and tiny elements of the world around us.

Following a break from making art, she returned through botanical painting and drawing, reconnecting her scientific eye with her creative practice. She has since developed a personal style that celebrates the subtle ways small fragments of nature weave themselves into everyday life.
